Which bin should compostable packaging go in?

In Ireland, certified compostable packaging is accepted in the brown food waste bin in most local authority areas.

• Home compostable items — OK compost HOME certified fibre and bagasse ranges can also go in a garden compost heap.
• Industrial-only items — PLA cups, lids and sleeves must go to a commercial composting facility, so use the food waste bin, not a home heap.
• Always check locally — acceptance rules and collection frequencies vary between councils, and some areas still ask for plastic to be separated out.
